How Outpaint / Expand works

The everyday use is aspect ratio. A square social image needs to become a wide banner; a portrait shot needs to fill a landscape hero slot. Cropping loses the subject, stretching looks wrong — outpainting adds new, matching image instead. Extend in modest steps and run it twice rather than asking for an enormous expansion in one pass; the model has more context to work from that way.

How far can I extend in one go?

Technically a long way, but quality falls off as the model gets further from real pixels. Two moderate passes beat one extreme one.

Will the extension match the original exactly?

Lighting, palette, and texture match closely. Specific structures — a continuing building line, a horizon feature — are invented and may need a second run to land well.

How is this different from upscaling?
